Gulf Hill Dairy “The Bucket” in Dartmouth, MA, is not just your everyday ice cream shop—it’s a cherished local destination where the simple joy of ice cream meets the warmth of community and the beauty of the waterfront. Nestled right on 77 Gulf Rd, this delightful spot offers an inviting atmosphere perfect for families, friends, and anyone looking to savor sweet treats with a view.
What truly sets The Bucket apart is its charming blend of classic and inventive flavors served in an environment that feels welcoming and lively. Imagine sitting at one of their sturdy picnic tables, children laughing at the nearby playground, and the gentle breeze off the water enhancing each creamy, cold bite. The variety of menus here goes beyond ice cream, offering mouthwatering sides like crispy Mozzarella Sticks and sweet Potato Fries, as well as hearty wraps and sandwiches ranging from a crispy Bacon Ranch Chicken Sandwich to fresh Fish Sandwiches that satisfy any savory craving.
The ice cream selection dazzles with options such as the whimsical "Smurf" cotton candy flavor, a crowd favorite that’s as visually delightful as it is delicious. For those looking to indulge further, rich Hot Fudge, Apple Pie, and Brownie sundaes provide a luscious experience, while inventive frappes—like the tangy Creamsicle or robust Mocha—offer a refreshing twist. And of course, no visit is complete without a classic Root Beer Float, a nostalgic treat that brings childhood memories flooding back with every sip.
Many visitors have echoed the special charm found here. Elizabeth Peachey fondly recalls the “lovely view” accompanied by concerts and a friendly, helpful staff ensuring a memorable outing. ARonefive highlights the unbeatable value, with $2 kids’ cones and plenty of engaging outdoor activities including playgrounds and basketball courts, creating a perfect multi-hour family retreat. Ronaldo Amaral calls it the “best place to grab ice cream on a sunny day by the water,” praising the generous kids’ servings and endless fun options from swimming to volleyball nearby. And M J points out the surprisingly excellent quality of the food—from the fries that are nothing short of addictive to the welcoming atmosphere created by the team.
The Bucket’s popularity means expect some wait during peak times, but it’s a small price to pay for the joy of biting into a scoop of Mississippi Mud or watching kids’ faces light up over sweet treats by the waterfront. Beyond just ice cream, the spot offers a rich experience where laughter, delicious food, and the scenic surroundings converge beautifully.
In essence, Gulf Hill Dairy “The Bucket” is much more than an ice cream shop; it’s a local gem that delivers happiness in every scoop and every visit, crafting memories that linger long after the last lick. Lovely view with picnic tables for families and friends to gather. Playground for children. Delicious "Smurf" cotton candy ice cream. There are also concerts held right there. We have enjoyed them in the past. Short wait and very friendly and helpful staff.

Kids love the ice cream here. You can beat the price either. 2 dollar kids cones. Located by the water and a playground. Good way to relax for a few hours.

Best place to grab ice cream on a sunny day by the water. Kids sizes are very filling and cost $2 with a huge amount of flavors. Basketball courts, swimming, volleyball, swings, and much more to do. Wait times are longer than fifteen minutes because of the popularity during peak hours.

We found this place on a whim because my oldest goes to college around here. The food is so good. Seriously you would think it wouldn't be - but it is! The fries especially are amazing. The staff is always nice and friendly. The prices are really good as well. They have a good selection and also have ice cream and Richies Slush. Its situated on a park (that I can't spell the name of) and has bathrooms, a cool playground and access to walk on a little beach. There are even basketball hoops and a little volleyball net. Great way to spend the day with the family. Down the street from Pandaram village in Dartmouth.
